Anxiety Counselling
Anxiety Counselling in Australia
Support for worry, panic, social anxiety and everyday overwhelm — a calmer relationship with your own mind is possible.
What is anxiety counselling?
Anxiety counselling is a collaborative space where we slow things down and make sense of what your anxiety is trying to tell you. Together, we explore the patterns, triggers and nervous‑system responses that keep you feeling stuck, overwhelmed or on edge. Rather than trying to “get rid” of anxiety, we work on understanding it, softening its impact, and learning practical tools that actually help in the moments you need them. My approach is gentle, curious and grounded in the belief that anxiety is not a personal failure — it is a protective response that can be understood, regulated and reshaped. Across sessions, clients learn how to:
- recognise early signs of anxiety in their body
- understand their nervous system and why anxiety shows up
- reduce avoidance and build confidence in facing everyday challenges
- develop emotional regulation skills
- reconnect with values, strengths and a sense of agency
- create small, sustainable changes that support long‑term wellbeing
Who I work with
I support:
- adults navigating generalised anxiety, panic, perfectionism and burnout
- adolescents and young people (ages 12–18) experiencing anxiety related to identity, school, friendships, family dynamics or trauma
- parents who feel overwhelmed, worried or unsure how to support their child’s emotional needs
How sessions work
Sessions are 60 minutes, offered online across Australia or in person in Sydney. My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative and practical. I draw on approaches that clients find easy to resonate with and apply — including nervous‑system education, strengths‑based strategies, trauma‑informed practice, values exploration, grounding tools, and creative techniques for emotional regulation. Clients don’t need to know any therapeutic jargon. We work in everyday language, using tools that make sense and feel doable. Each session is tailored to your needs. Some people prefer structured strategies; others prefer reflective conversations. Many benefit from learning how their nervous system works and how to befriend their anxiety which allows for more pockets of safety, connection and calm.
Common questions
How many sessions will I need?⌄
This varies for each person. Some clients feel a shift after a few sessions, while others prefer longer‑term support. Anxiety often improves most when sessions are consistent and paced gently, allowing time to understand your nervous system, practise new tools, and build confidence. We decide this together based on your goals, your capacity, and what feels manageable for you.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?⌄
At this stage, counselling sessions are not eligible for Medicare rebates. Many clients choose counselling because they value a warm, relational, trauma‑informed approach without needing a GP referral or a mental health plan. You can book directly and begin whenever you’re ready.
Do you work with private health insurance?⌄
Yes. I am a registered provider with several private health funds, including Medibank, AHM, ARHG, and HCF. If your policy includes counselling or mental health extras, you may be able to claim a rebate for your sessions. I encourage clients to check directly with their health fund to confirm their level of cover and the rebate amount available under their specific plan.
Can counselling help without medication?⌄
Yes. Many people experience meaningful improvement in anxiety through counselling alone. Understanding your nervous system, learning regulation tools, reducing avoidance, and building confidence can significantly increase capacity to manage the symptoms. Medication can be helpful for some people, and if you’re considering it, I encourage you to speak with your GP or psychiatrist. Counselling can work alongside medication or independently — whatever aligns with your needs and preferences.
What happens in a session?⌄
Sessions are 60 minutes and move at your pace. We explore what anxiety feels like for you, what triggers it, and how your nervous system responds. You’ll learn practical tools you can use in everyday life, and we work together to build small, sustainable changes that support long‑term wellbeing.
Do you work with teens and young people?⌄
Yes. I support adolescents (ages 12–18) with anxiety related to identity, school, friendships, family dynamics, trauma, and everyday stress. Sessions may include talk therapy, creative tools, values exploration, and nervous‑system education.
Do you accept Victims Services referrals?⌄
Yes. I provide trauma‑recovery counselling for adults, teens and young people impacted by domestic, family or sexual violence. Anxiety is a very common response to trauma, and sessions are paced gently to ensure safety and regulation.
