Trauma Counselling
Trauma Counselling in Australia
Gentle, trauma-informed support for people living with the effects of trauma — online across Australia or in person in Sydney.
What is trauma counselling?
Trauma counselling is a safe, paced therapeutic space where we gently explore how trauma is showing up in your body, thoughts, emotions and relationships. Instead of diving into painful memories before you’re ready, we begin by building steadier ground — helping your nervous system feel supported, understood and less overwhelmed. Trauma affects more than the mind. It can shape how you react, how you connect with others, how you make decisions, and how you see yourself. In our work together, we focus on understanding these patterns with compassion, not judgement. You’ll learn practical ways to regulate your nervous system, reduce the intensity of triggers, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may feel lost or shut down. The aim is not to “erase” trauma, but to help you feel more anchored, more empowered, and more able to move forward in a way that feels safe and possible.

How sessions work
Sessions are 60 minutes, offered online across Australia or in person in Sydney. Trauma counselling with me is gentle, collaborative and grounded in safety. We move slowly and intentionally, always at your pace. You won’t be pushed to retell traumatic events — instead, we focus on what your body and nervous system are carrying today, and how to create more stability and choice in your responses. My approach includes:
- nervous-system education (polyvagal-informed)
- strengths-based and trauma-informed practice
- grounding and regulation tools
- values exploration and meaning-making
- creative and reflective strategies when helpful
- attachment-focused conversations
- practical skills for managing triggers and emotional overwhelm
Common questions
How long does trauma counselling take?⌄
Trauma work is highly individual. Some people come for short-term support to stabilise and learn regulation tools. Others prefer longer-term work to unpack deeper patterns shaped by childhood or relational trauma. We discuss your goals together and adjust the pace as needed. There is no rush and no pressure — healing is not linear, and your nervous system sets the tempo.
Do I need a referral?⌄
No. You can book directly without a GP referral. If you are accessing Victims Services, you can provide your approval number and I will take care of the rest.
Is trauma counselling confidential?⌄
Yes. Everything you share is confidential, with the exception of the standard legal limits related to safety. We discuss these clearly at the beginning so you know exactly what to expect.
What if I’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t help?⌄
Many clients come to me after previous therapy experiences that felt too fast, too overwhelming, or not trauma-informed. Trauma counselling is different — it is paced, gentle and grounded in nervous-system awareness. You don’t need to retell your trauma story for the work to be effective. We focus on building safety, understanding your patterns, and creating small, manageable shifts that support long-term change.
Do you work with private health insurance?⌄
Yes. I am a registered provider with Medibank, AHM, ARHG, and HCF. If your policy includes counselling or mental health extras, you may be able to claim a rebate. I encourage clients to check directly with their health fund to confirm their level of cover.
Do you accept Victims Services referrals?⌄
Yes. I provide trauma-recovery counselling for adults, teens and young people impacted by domestic, family or sexual violence. Sessions are paced gently and focus on safety, stabilisation and empowerment.
